2013 Fantasy Football Injury Recap: Week 15

Wide Receivers
  • Larry Fitzgerald, WR, ARI
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jaron Brown/Andre Roberts
    • News: Fitzgerald was hurt during an onside kick in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. He got hit by Jackie Battle in a helmet-to-helmet collision, and was not able to return to play. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians didn't provide an news on Fitzgerald's condition after the game except, "We'll wait and see."
    • Fantasy ramification: As for fantasy performances, Fitzgerald was on a great run heading into Week 15. He scored double-digit fantasy points in all four of his previous contests, and scored at least one touchdown in each game. That streak came to an end this Sunday as Fitzgerald was held to four fantasy points (standard scoring), and left the game with a concussion. He will have to complete the concussion protocol before he can return to play; his status for Week 16 is in question. His back-ups are not fantasy relevant, so his owners should look for replacements elsewhere.
  • Michael Crabtree, WR, SF
    • Injury: Left Hand
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Mario Manningham
    • News: Crabtree hurt his left hand during the fourth quarter, and received a post-game X-ray. The results of the X-ray have not been made public at this time.
    • Fantasy ramification: Crabtree just returned to play a month ago after recovering from a surgically repaired torn Achilles tendon. Then, in his second game of the season, Week 14, Crabtree hurt one of his ankles. Now, in Week 15, he has hurt one of his hands bad enough to warrant an x-ray. The silver lining to his performance was he made his first touchdown reception of the year. The results of the x-ray need to be made public in order to know his prognosis for return. These mounting injuries significantly decrease Crabtree’s fantasy value. His owners should find safer options for Week 16.
  • Victor Cruz, WR, NYG
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Rueben Randle/Louis Murphy
    • News: Cruz was slammed to the ground during a high-leaping reception in Sunday’s game. When Cruz was slammed to the ground, his head and shoulder were the first body segments to make contact with the ground. After the play, Cruz didn't immediately get up; he eventually made it to the sideline under his own power. The team’s medical staff evaluated him for a concussion.
    • Fantasy ramification: The timetable of Cruz’s return to play is questionable; he will have to pass all stages of the concussion protocol, and have no exacerbations of symptoms. All of his owners should find back-up plans for next week just in case he is out. There have been many instances when players have been scratched only minutes before the game secondary to a headache, so make sure to have another playable wide receiver ready on your bench. This slightly boosts the value of Rueben Randle for Week 16. Hakeem Nicks is still a toxic asset though.

Tight Ends
  • Jermaine Gresham, TE, CIN
    • Injury: Hip
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Tyler Eifert
    • News: During Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jermaine Gresham was forced from the action with a right hip injury.
    • Fantasy ramification: Gresham has been barely fantasy relevant this year. However, his injury boosts the value of fellow tight end Tyler Eifert. Eifert is now a low-end TE1 or high-end TE2.
