Bernie Ecclestone wants double points for final three F1 races

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone wants the final three races of the 2014 season to be worth double points, but admits the current rule may be dropped next month.
The FIA announced earlier this month that the 2014 season finale in Abu Dhabi would be worth double points, a move that has been widely criticised both by fans and some of the sport's figures.

Ecclestone believes the best solution would be to have double points in the final three races of the year, as he reckons it would keep the championship interest alive for longer.
The Briton concedes, however, that the original plan could be scrapped when the F1 Strategy Group meets next month.
"Personally my preference would be for the final three races to be worth double points," Ecclestone told The Daily Telegraph.
"But it may well be that the rule is cancelled altogether at the next [Strategy Group] meeting in January. I think it should be the final three races or nothing.
"The final three races would mean the championship is kept interesting for everyone - fans, press and television - right until the end."

World champion Sebastian Vettel said recently that the double points idea was absurd.
"This is absurd and punishes those who have worked hard during a whole season," he said.
"I respect the old traditions in F1 and do not understand this new rule."
