Detroit Lions: Three Biggest Needs & Holes

Chris Houston The Detroit Lions have some holes in their secondary and they need to find more playmakers on offense. Here are their three biggest needs:

1. Cornerback
The Detroit Lions have been getting torched in their secondary. WIth their front seven, they should have a top 10 defense, but it's their secondary, more specifically their cornerbacks, that bring them down.
Their No. 1 cornerback is Rashean Mathis, who is past his prime and gets beaten by players bigger than him on a weekly basis.
Chris Houston is often injured, and does little when healthy. Darius Slay, although selected in the 2nd round, is proving that he's not much more than a nickel-cornerback. The Lions need that No. 1 cornerback that can take away the opponent's No. 1 guy, and if they can find that guy, they'll be a top 10 defense almost immediately.
Options in the draft include Justin Gilbert, Loucheiz Purifoy, and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu. All three have big potential in the NFL.

2. Offensive Tackle
Riley Reiff has been a disappointment this season in his first year as a left tackle. He's allowed 7 sacks and 8 hits (15 times Stafford has been knocked down because of him). Reiff may be better suited as a right tackle, because he struggles against quick defenders.
There are plenty of options in the draft. They'll be drafting in the early to mid teens and they'll have to choose from Cyrus Kouandjio, Antonio Richardson, and potentially Taylor Lewan, if he drops a bit. There are plenty of options in this draft, and if the Lions don't feel comfortable with Reiff going forward, they should not hesitate to replace him at left tackle.

3. No. 2 Wide Receiver
Calvin Johnson is an absolute monster, but the Lions should try and find other options beyond him. Burleson is decent but will be 33 next season, and has suffered some injuries. Pettigrew may not be back next season and was invisible this year.
They need to find other guys to make the plays, because it will help everyone on offense. There are options in the draft as well, they could select Marqise Lee who can stretch the field, or Sammy Watkins if he falls, or even Mike Evans if they intend on staying with big receivers.
