OTHER: Prodrive targets Formula E and Dakar
The new boss of Prodrive Motorsport has targeted an expansion into Formula E and rally raids such as the Dakar.
Gaw outlined a plan for a growth in Prodrive's business on the announcement
of his promotion from Aston Martin Racing managing director and team principal to
the new position of MD of all Prodrive's motorsport operations.
"I would like to see us running cars in the new Formula E Championship, which I believe has a tremendous future, and to be competing in the Dakar, which is a natural progression given our 30 years of rallying experience," he said.
Prodrive founder David Richards has been a key supporter of the Formula E series for
all-electric vehicles, which is due to kick off next September.
The Formula E entry is full, but a number of teams have yet to announce technical partners for their programmes.
Gaw, 42, stated that he also wanted programmes in the next year's inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship and the Global Rallycross Championship with the new Mini RX,
a lighter and more powerful version of Prodrive's World Rally Car.
AMR will continue to field Vantage GTEs in next year's World Endurance Championship, while customer entrants will continue to run Prodrive-built Minis in the World Rally Championship and national series.
