Pittsburgh at Jacksonville: Three Things We Learned

Despite being one of the worst in the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars defense kept the game close against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jaguars offense let its team down. Jacksonville did not find the endzone once against the Steelers -- it managed only to score three field goals in the 17-9 loss, which dropped the team to a record of 0-5.

The Steelers defense played its best game all season versus the Jaguars. The defense even made the game-changing play of the day: Steelers cornerback Brice McCain picked off Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles and returned the ball 22 yards for a touchdown.

Blake Bortles has potential but is still a rookie

If the Jaguars had at least one of their starting wide receivers, this game may have had a different result. The Jaguars receivers dropped quite a few passes. However, Bortles definitely deserves a piece of the blame for the offense's pitiful performance. Bortles had to burn two timeouts in the first quarter of the game, and he threw two interceptions. The second of those interceptions resulted in a touchdown for the Steelers, and it came immediately after the Jaguars defense got a takeaway. Bortles still has a lot to work on, but Jaguars fans should be excited about his potential.

Steelers are an undisciplined team

Through four weeks of regular season play, the Steelers were the second-most penalized team in the NFL. In Week 5 against the Jaguars, the Steelers still had an array of undisciplined actions. The Steelers were penalized seven times during the game. Steelers wide receiver Lance Moore's delay of game penalty was absolutely stupid on his part. After making a 26-yard reception, Moore spiked the ball into the turf. Spiking the ball is widely known as a penalty now. Many wonder why Lance Moore does not receive much playing time; perhaps it is due to mistakes like his penalty.

Overall, the Steelers need to eliminate the bonehead plays -- otherwise the Steelers are looking at another mediocre season.

Steelers could have given the ball to Le'Veon Bell more often

In the Steelers other two victories, running back Le'Veon Bell ran the ball over 20 times and rushed for over 100 yards. In today's game, Bell only had 15 rushing attempts. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and had a 29-yard run, which makes it odd that Bell was not given more opportunities. The Steelers may have scored more points if Bell was given more touches.
