Super Bowl XLIX: Katy Perry To Headline The Halftime Show

The Super Bowl XLIX halftime show has been announced, much to the displeasure of many music fans. Over the past 15 years or so, we have seen the likes of Aerosmith, U2, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The Who.

Unfortunately, the NFL has transitioned from legendary performers, to over-played top-40 radio tunes to appease the masses.

Katy Perry will be the headliner on February 1, 2015 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. She will be on stage just two weeks before kicking off her 2015 tour in Europe, giving her a great opportunity to promote her new album.

In last year’s big game we saw Bruno Mars take the stage, two years prior was Madonna and the year before that? The Black Eyed Peas.

I am not going to discredit Perry, Mars or any others for what they have been able to do in the music industry. With that being said there is not a chance that they are even somewhat comparable to Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty.

Aside from Beyonce shutting the lights out at the Super Dome in New Orleans back in 2013, the halftime show has been quite disappointing since The Who left the stage in 2010.

Bruno Mars was smart enough to bring out the Red Hot Chili Peppers, providing a bearable show, but if Katy Perry does not follow suit, it could make for one painful performance.

Here’s to hoping the football game itself is much better than the currently provided entertainment.
