New York Jets v Minnesota Vikings: 5 Things To Know

The 2-10 New York Jets will play the 5-7 Minnesota Vikings, Sunday.  Does anyone care?

And how does a first year coach, with a rookie quarterback minus their best player have a better record than the Jets?  It was a rhetorical question.

Here are five things you should know:

It is impotence versus limp

The Vikings offense aveages 19.4 points per game.  The Jets average 15.8 points a game.  There are only two teams who average less points per game than the Jets.

In this high offensive powered NFL can these teams survive?  Obviously not.  We know one of these teams will have to put points on the board.  We know the Vikings put up 31 points on the Carolina Panthers last week.  We also know the Jets put up 13 points against the Miami Dolphins last week.

We know who has the advantage here.

It is defensive czar versus defensive guru

Both coaches in this game are known for their brillance on defense.  Mike Zimmer has his defense 10th in total yards and sixth in passing yards.

Rex Ryan has his defense seventh in total yards and third in rushing yards.

The Vikings rushing defense is their weakness.  They are ranked 24th allowing 123.8 yards a game.

The Jets passing defense is its weakness.  They are ranked 15th allowing 236.8 yards a game.

We know Bridgewater and Greg Jennings will have a good game.  While we hope Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson excel.

Quarterback conundrum

Second year man Geno Smth is playing for the position.  His passer rating ranks him last in the league at 65.8.  Last week against the Miami Dolphins, Smith completed 7-of-13 passes.

Meanwhile rookie Teddy Bridgewater is solidifying his starting position.  Bridgewater is rocking a 79.0 passer rating.  Last week in the win against the Panthers, he completed 15-of-21 passes with two  touchdowns and zero interceptions.

We know Bridgewater will outshine Smith.  It's a shame that won't be a surprise.

Vikings rushing options diminishing and still they rise

Forget that they have managed to win five games without their all-everything running back Adrian Peterson.  Next man up.  Now he is down.  Jerick McKinnon is out for the season with a lower back injury.  Next man up.  Matt Asiata has answered the call.  Last week he had 14 rushes for 52 yards.

We know first year head coach Mike Zimmer is doing alot with a little.

Fire Sale

What are the Jets playing for?  Is it pride?  Is it an audtion for next year?  And just who will make it one more year in Gang Green Nation?

Michael Vick, Geno Smith, Eric Decker, Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Rex Ryan and John Idzik are there for something, the question is what.  Week 14 starts the fire sale in earnest.  Who will survive?
We know that this is an open audition for next year.
