NFL 2014: Coaches Who Won't Survive Black Monday

There were some heads turned last week when it was announced that the Miami Dolphins would retain Joe Philbin as their head coach.

The news was surprising enough that quarterback Ryan Tannehill seemed a bit shocked by the news.

There were other decisions in the past few weeks that have come across the sports scene that have also seemed a bit shocking where the likes of Tom Coughlin in New York and Jay Gruden in Washington will get another season to show they can lead their respective franchises out of the dregs of hell.

While some coaches are not on thin ice yet (Gus Bradley in Jacksonville, Philbin, Coughlin and Gruden) they will most certainly feel it should there team’s fail in 2015. Add Ron Rivera in Carolina, Doug Marrone in Buffalo and maybe Sean Payton in New Orleans (where he will hear rumors and feel heat) should these teams not reach the next level.

In two days, the NFL will get plenty of heat as teams will make choices of who to retain and who to let go. The NFL and the media call it “Black Monday.” These five coaches won’t survive the fire.
