2015 NFL Free Agency: Top 5 Landing Spots For Justin Houston
The Kansas City Chiefs are in a quandary of sorts. According to a report, the team is thinking of trading Tamba Hali over the offseason in an effort to allow this past season’s first round draft pick, Dee Ford a chance to start opposite of Justin Houston.
There is only one caveat to this plan – Houston is set to become a free agent in this offseason. If the Chiefs want that plan to work, they must open the check book and pay of the NFL’s most underrated pass rushers in the league today.
A key reason for Hali potentially leaving the team that originally drafted him is simple – his price tag is a bit steep. Hali, a four-time Pro Bowler, realizes he might have played his last game for the team, reports the Kansas City Star. The nine-year vet is set to cost nearly $12 million against the cap next year.
Does the team take that kind of money and throw it Houston’s way, because the former Georgia star certainly proved he is worth his weight in gold here in Missouri.
While JJ Watt go all the accolades this year for a 20-sack season and five touchdowns and commercials and bad dancing, Houston had 22 sacks of his own in a quieter season than his Houston counterpart. According to profootballtalk.com,
Entering free agency, he now has plenty of leverage. With the negotiating gap between the team and player now likely to get even bigger and with the injury risk gone until next September, look for the Chiefs to use the franchise tag on Houston.
If they don’t and let him walk, here are five other teams that could make a play for his services.
