Super Bowl 2015: 10 Super Bold Predictions
Let's just get this out of the way first: Deflate-gate is a non-story, and I don't want to talk about it, or even read about it anymore.
Super Bowl XLIX (slicks) is right around the corner, and features the two best teams from the 2014 regular season. Not only did they beat the competition in the playoffs, but the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks were the top seeds in their respective conferences, too.
Here are my predictions for the biggest game on the planet...
1. Tom Brady will throw the lights out..
Not literally, of course, but he has the weapons in place and healthy to frustrate and take advantage of the Seahawk secondary. Brady will have no problem surpassing 300 yards, a feat he accomplished only five times in the regular season and once in the playoffs.
2. Russell Wilson will be the leading rusher...
Wilson ran for over 100 yards three times this season. The Patriots will have a hard time shadowing him, while also concentrating on the ever-dangerous Marshawn Lynch. In passing situations, as well as, the read-option, Wilson will be able to avoid the rush and make big plays.
3. Darrell Revis will have the biggest impact in the passing game...
To take nothing away from Richard Sherman, Revis will shut down whomever he is assigned, and take down at least two interceptions.
4. Weather will not be a factor...
Okay, this is not a huge stretch... seeing as how the game is being played in the desert. The good news is, the field will be clean and the balls will be firm.
5. Brady will be well protected...
In this post-season, Wilson has been sacked seven times, Brady only three. Despite the supposed woes of the Patriots' front line protection, Brady was sacked exactly half as many times as Wilson (42 vs 21) throughout the year. Say what you will, Brady will have the time to find his very, dangerous targets.
6. Seattle's secondary will have the least impact on this game...
Whom will you cover? Rob Gronkowski is a mis-match for anybody. Brandon LaFell has become a huge x-factor. Julian Edelman is better than Wes Welker. Then there's Shane Vereen out of the backfield, and Tim Wright playing opposite Gronk. But the biggest factor is the health of Sherman and Earl Thomas. The Patriots should have a field day in that secondary.
7. Gronk will lead all receivers.
He was relatively quiet in the AFC Championship game, but will come on with a vengeance in the Super Bowl. This is a big game for him and he will rise to the opportunity.
8. The Patriot defense will find ways to harrass Wilson...
The Packers limited Wilson to just over 7 yards per completion. The Pats will need to get creative, but Matt Patricia is up to the challenge. Stunts and blitzes will force Wilson to run more and throw off-balance, just like in the NFC Championship game.
9. Stephen Gostkowski will go three-for-three to help edge out the Seahawks...
The kicking game has been a fairly strong point thus far for the Patriots. Second only to Vinatieri in percentage, Gostkowski has proven to be a weapon on the order of Gronk and Brady.
10. Belichick will surprise us all with an on-side kick to steal a possession from Seattle at some point in the game...
He has been suddenly creative, what with the Edelman pass for a TD and the ineligible receiver. The on-side kick, or even fake-punt, will be his coups de gras for this season. What better way to win the Super Bowl than to out-trick your opponent?
Oh yeah, I'm predicting the Patriots to win this one and put to rest all the doubters and haters. The best team of the last 15 years and maybe all-time will do it one more time for the greatest coach/QB tandem of all time.
