Penn State at Michigan: 5 Things to Know

Michigan is dead last in the Big Ten East Division and is desperate for a win, they are currently 2-4 and 0-2 in the conference. Coach James Franklin is looking to bounce back from a defeat to heavy defeat at the hands of the Northwestern Wildcats. The Nittany Lions are currently 4-1. The game will be played in front of 100,000 fans under lights.

The Big Ten may well be out of reach for the Wolverines but here are five things to know;

Lions are on a streak

Penn State are looking for thier fifth straight win against Michigan. In the 2013 season, Penn State coached by Bill O'Brien ran out 43-40 winners. The victory came in 4OT. Michigan has given up at least 35 points in the four consecutive defeats to their Big Ten rivals.

Lucky Seven for Michigan 

From 1997 to 2007, Michigan ran out winners on seven straight occasions. During that time, Michigan shut out Penn State twice in 1998 and 2001. Michigan leads the all-time series 10-7.

Hackenberg looking for more

Despite a poor game against the Wildcats, Christian Hackenberg has made 1,477-of-1,534 passing yards for the Nittany Lions. With an average of 306.8 passing yards per game, those numbers are ranked the 25th best passing numbers in college football.

What a rush

Penn State have a total of 505 rushing yards for the 2014 season. Michigan's sophomore running back, Derrick Green has almost equalled that number on his own. Green has rushed for 471 yards so far.

Porous pockets

Both signal callers have had problems in the pocket so far in 2014. Hackenberg has been sacked 13 times. He was only sacked 21 times throughout 2013. Devin Gardner hasn't had it any better for Michigan, he has been sacked 14 times.
