Laremy Tunsil to Tennessee Titans at No. 1,2016 NFL mock draft:

Laremy Tunsil to Tennessee Titans at No. 1,2016 NFL mock draft:

With the Ole Miss left tackle, need absolutely fits value for the Titans in the first pick of the SB Nation NFL writers mock draft.
After picking second overall last year, the Tennessee Titans carry the first overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. At No. 2 in 2015, the Titans selected Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and appear to have their franchise quarterback of the future. The Titans have solid pieces around Mariota in newly acquired running back DeMarco Murray and athletic young receivers like Kendall Wright, Dorial Green-Beckham and Rishard Matthews.
But if the Titans want to employ head coach Mike Mularkey's "exotic smashmouth" offense, adding talent on the offensive line could be in order. That's been the mindset of many leading up to the draft, including Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles, who handles the Titans' first selection in our 2016 NFL mock draft.

1. Titans: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss

Morris: The Titans have been horrific on the offensive line for the better part of five years. Titans controlling owner Amy Adam Strunk has made no secret about how important it is to protect Marcus Mariota. Tunsil is the best player in this draft and just so happens to be an offensive tackle. Taylor Lewan will move to right tackle and the Titans will have one of the best young tackle pairings in the NFL.
Analysis: Tunsil is the surest of sure things in this year's draft. It's not often in the top five where need absolutely fits value, but that's the case here. With Tunsil and the other additions on offense the past two seasons, Tennessee's offense could become formidable with the right coaching and play calling. With that said, the Titans would be smart to go heavy on defense the rest of the draft if Tunsil is the choice.

Dan's Top 5 players remaining

  • 1. Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
  • 3. Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State
  • 4. Myles Jack, LB, UCLA
  • 5. Jared Goff, QB, Cal
  • 6. DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

Titans picks

  • 1-1: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
  • 2-33: (coming April 8)
Our next pick of the day is coming up at noon ET from Chris Pokorny, who covers the Cleveland Browns for Dawgs by Nature.

2015 NFL Draft: 10 Picks Teams Will Instantly Regret

The NFL Draft is over.  Some teams are happy with their choices.  Some teams wish they had the infamous do overs.  And some are just oblivious to what just happened.

Here are regrets for things done and not done.  In no particularly order, because face it regret is regret.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Daunte Fowler Jr.

This is a regret you could not have predicted.  Fowler tore his ACL and will be out for the season.  Fowler was a first round selection.  He was the edge rusher the Jaguars needed.  And now he is out.

9. Denver Broncos: Jeff Heuerman

Another rookie another loss.  Heuerman also tore his ACL and is expected to be out for the season.  Heuerman was expected to be the tight end that could both block and be valuable in the passing game.  Another regret that could not be predicted.

8. Philadelphia Eagles: Not getting the quarterback

So Chip Kelly reportedly kicked the tires on the prospect of getting his quarterback Marcus Mariota.  He reportedly shopped around a couple of players.  And he eventually found the price to be too high?  Does he regret not getting Mariota?  Or does he regret more the ruffled feathers of those who are still in the locker room?  The trading room fodder?  The expendables?

7. Dallas Cowboys: Not drafting a running back

An instant regret that may linger for awhile.  The Cowboys lose DeMarco Murray.  And then they acquired Darren McFadden in free agency.  So a durable running back in the draft?  Nah!  The Cowboys will stick to the belief that their offensive line can make a star out of anyone.  Anyone?

6. Carolina Panthers: Leaving Cam Newton Out to Dry

Run Cam Run!  It seems that the Panthers believe Michael Oher can be a reliable left tackle.  Unfortunately, this is not a movie with a happy ending.  Yes, he does have another big receiving option.  Will that help when he is running for his life?

5. Indianapolis Colts: Wide Receiver Phillip Dorsett

This is not a knock on Dorsett, but a slap on the Colts.  The Colts' defense got bullied.  So you would expect them to go big on defenders who can make an immediate impact.  Alas, that didn't happen.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers: Senquez Golson

Golson sturggles against bigger bodies and he is raw against the run.  Did I mention he is also slight of size.  So yes, it worked with all everything Troy Polamalu.  But Polamalu is a rare gem.  And Golson is no Polamalu.

3. Kansas City Chiefs: Wide receiver?

So the lack of production from the wide receivers in Kansas City requires drafting a developmental wide receiver in the draft?  First forget that they acquired ex-Washington Marcus Peters as their first choice.  He may be good.  He is good.  But he has some issues that have him labeled a character risk.  He might be a lockdown corner.  Then again the Chiefs wide receivers might get in the end zone this year?

2. Tennessee Titans: Marcus Mariota

By all accounts Mariota is a great guy.  How many wins does that equal exactly?  What could the Titans have acquired for Mariota had they yanked on the Eagles chain a little?  Is this system the best fit for Mariota?   Is this a symbiotic regret?  Don't you think Mariota wishes he was in Philadelphia?

1. San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead

Armstead is a gifted athlete.  He is also raw.  Head coach Jim Tomsula admitted as much when he conceded Armstead will take time to adjust.  Just what you want to hear about a first round choice.  Especially on a team that is leaking retirements, defections and losses on both sides of the ball.

History Check - Can Dorial Green-Beckham Be Great?

In 2015 the Tennessee Titans drafted polarizing receiver Dorial Green-Beckham or DGB for short. DGB was heavily touted to be a first round talent and possibly a top 20 selection in the 2015 draft, however, due to his off-field indiscretions, that did not happen.

So the question remains - Can DGB be a great wide receiver in the NFL? We are going to take a walk down memory lane to see where DGB stacks up against all of the the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans second round wide receiver selections.

In the history of this franchise, only seven second round wide receivers have been selected. Let us take a walk down memory lane and see where Dorial Green-Beckham's future lies.

2015 NFL Draft: 10 Great Value Picks Outside the First Round

Let's face it, despite the stigma of why a team has the No. 1 pick (or even top 10) in the draft, the chance to grab one of the most talented college prospects of the year is a big deal and a possible change of fortune for a franchise.

The first round may not always be stacked top to bottom with the most talented players overall, it's still considered the cream of the crop for providing instant, starting-caliber bodies with an eye towards filling holes in week one.

But some teams may have found their best picks after day one, and here are my picks for the 10 best (you could call them steals) from rounds two through six (I already covered round seven here).

1. Randy Gregory DE Dallas Cowboys 60th overall.

Call him a boom-or-bust candidate, but if he starts making better choices, he will be one of the best choices in this entire draft. Forget about the fact that the Cowboys seemed to need a running back more than anything, Gregory immediately upgrades this pass-rush, and adds some versatility in every aspect of defensive play. He was a top 10 pick by all standards, and was a steal at 60th.

2. A. J. Cann OG Jacksonville Jaguars 67th overall.

Here was an imposing presence on the offensive line for South Carolina who would have filled a huge need for the Patriots at the end of the first round; instead, he falls to the Jaguars in the third round. Cann is one of the top-rated offensive linemen and will be a starter right away in Jacksonville.

3. Jaelen Strong WR Houston Texans 70th overall.

Some thought that Strong was the best receiver in the draft, and that translates to a huge steal for the Texans, who already have a couple of good receivers in Cecil Shorts and DeAndre Hopkins. Mike Mayock likened Strong to Larry Fitzgerald. If that isn't high enough praise, what is?

4. Carl Davis DT Baltimore Ravens 90th overall.

A lage first round projection who got lost in the shuffle despite several teams who needed a big body in the middle of their defensive fronts. Davis gets into the backfield a lot and makes tackles. He will frustrate a lot of plays as a pro.

5. Steven Nelson CB Kansas City Chiefs 98th overall.

Not a flashy pick, but one of the more consistent corners in college football, Nelson held his own for the Beavers, as well as, having a strong showing at the senior bowl. What Nelson lacks in size he compensates in tenacity and good technique. He will start very soon in K.C.

6. Trey Flowers DE New England Patriots 101st overall.

If you haven't heard of Flowers, just ask around the SEC, because they have heard of the Arkansas product. He led his defense in sacks and tackles for loss and was also a Combine Top Performer in the Vertical Jump, Long Jump, and 60 yd. shuttle run. Flowers adds depth to a suspect outside rush in a unit that needs to increase its QB pressure immediately.

7. David Cobb RB Tennessee Titans 138th overall.

He won't wow you with speed or elusiveness, but Cobb can hammer his way through holes, and if he fixes his fumblitis, will have a good career in the NFL. After 1200 yards in 2013, he followed with 1600 in 2014.  He notched 35 TDs at Minnesota in just three years. He is so much like Stevan Ridley it's scary.

8. Brett Hundley QB Green Bay Packers 147th overall.

The only knock on this kid was that he didn't play in a pro-style offense. Other than that, he was one of the best QBs in this draft class... if you go by stats and all that. He gets to learn from one of the best coaches and one of the best QBs in the game today. The sky is the limit.

9. Jay Ajayi RB Miami Dolphins 149th overall.

It was the knee injury. But he was a top-performer at the combine in the vertical jump, broad jump, short shuttle and long shuttle. How about 1800 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season? What's not to like... if he stays on the field. The kid is a beast.

10. Tony Lippett WR Miami Dolphins 156th overall.

If all I said was that he started at receiver and cornerback for the Spartans and excelled at both, we should agree that he is a steal in the fifth round. He looks like a prototypical slot receiver who doesn't have to burn the defense to make big plays. And when corner depth is challenged, Lippett can easily step in and do the job.

There were a few others who could have found room if this list were longer, but I thought this draft was pretty deep at certain positions and not a few teams made significant progress in improving their overall depth and talent. While some of these players will likely get smothered in bad systems, the cream will rise to the top in the right environments.

Talent is often less important than work ethic. Most of the guys in this category will find great successbecause of it, even surpassing some more talented players. That is what separates the men from the boys in the NFL.

2015 NFL Draft: 5 Awesome Finds in the 7th Round

You might have tuned out by the seventh round, or even the sixth, but turning a blind eye to any player in any round could be suicide for everybody except the team so lucky as to find the next Tom Brady (sixth rounder) or Steve Young (supplemental draft).

The seventh round is certainly not the most likely place to find top-tier talent, but just look at some of the names that have come out of what now is the final round-

1. Julian Edelman

2. Marques Colston

3. Brock Marion

4. Shannon Sharpe

5. Donald Driver

6. T.J. Houshmandzadeh

7. Jay Ratliffe

So without any further ado... The five "most-likely-to-succeed" from the 2015 NFL Draft Seventh Round:

1. Devin Gardner QB/WR Michigan. I include this UDFA pick because of the familiar story. He was a QB who is turning into a receiver ala Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots, who drafted him late on Saturday. Maybe this is the new miracle picking scheme of Bill Belichick.

2. Neal Sterling WR/TE Monmouth. This guy reminds me of Aaron Hernandez because of his size more than anything else. The Jacksonville Jaguars could use him as this kind of a "hybrid" or "joker" that lines up in multiple formations. Small school aside, he could provide a mismatch against linebackers over the middle.

3. Bryce Hager LB Baylor. The St. Louis Rams may not have found the next Clay Matthews, but Hager comes with a fast motor and willingness to put his helmet into every play. Whether a future special teams ace or role player in the middle of the defense, this is one linebacker who will contribute on the field wherever Jeff Fisher chooses to unleash his hitting power.

4. Tre McBride WR William and Mary. Do... Not... Be... Fooled... this is the best pick in the seventh round and maybe the best receiver outside of the first round, by the Tennessee Titans. His combine numbers were shockingly good and it is amazing that he fell this far. He will be a prolific target for Marcus Mariota for years to come.

5. Mr. Irrelevant- Gerald Christian TE Louisville. Here is another hybrid who could easily carve a significant role for the Arizona Cardinals. He is another big body which is becoming popular in the NFL. Mr. Irrelevant may not be irrelevant in 2015 for a team that needs that one special piece to climb to the next level in a competitive NFC West.

This level of talent proves that, not only was this a deep draft, but good contributors can be found at every turn in this draft class. From the first selection to the last, Jameis Winston to Gerald Christian, stars have been born. And 2015 is going to be an exciting year in the NFL as 32 teams claw their way toward the Lombardi Trophy and football immortality.

Grading the First 5 Picks in the 2015 NFL Draft

The 2015 NFL Draft has come and gone so now it’s time to hand out the annual draft grades. The NFL Draft is something that is anticipated for months and in a flash of an eye it is over. That is the uniqueness of the draft, but also can send the diehard fans into a depression because now we must wait three months for more live meaningful NFL coverage.

Today we will take a look at the first five picks in this year’s NFL Draft. We will grade each pick on a scale of A to F. We will consider things like on the field play, off the field issues, college competition and college success as we project that forward to the NFL level.

First, we will start with the number one pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Draft grade: B- We give Winston a B for obvious reasons. The off the field issues have to be a concern. This doesn’t mean he can’t change his ways now that he is in a professional atmosphere, but he has to prove it first.

His own the field play is without question deserving of an A. He has all the skills you look for in a professional quarterback. He has great arm strength, accuracy and played in an NFL type system in college at Florida State.

The level of competition he played against in the ACC also concerns me, but not too much. Winston and Buccaneers get a B, but they certainly made the right choice.

Second, is the number two pick to the Tennessee Titans, Marcus Mariota.

Draft grade: B- We give the Titans a B for the selection of Mariota. His off the field concerns can be listed as none. He is humble, a great leader and will be a great ambassador for the Titans.

His spread style offense experience at Oregon will be a concern as he transfers to the NFL, but he has what it takes to get the job done by all accounts.

I love this pick of Mariota by the Titans and I feel they made the right choice by keeping the number two pick and not trading it away like so many rumors had them doing so leading up to the draft.

Third, is the number three selection of Dante Fowler to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Draft grade: B- We once again give the selection of Fowler a B grade. I feel he has all the physical qualities you look for in a future NFL star on the defensive side of the ball. He came from a great defensive system at Florida where he was coached by defensive guru Will Muschamp.

Muschamp was previously an assistant coach under Nick Saban at LSU, so you know Fowler has been well trained about the mindset and qualities it takes to play a good brand of defensive football.

Fowler is a great pick for the Jaguars and will now have to use his speed and athletic ability to rush the passer in the NFL.

Fourth, is the number four pick of Amari Cooper to the Oakland Raiders.

Draft grade: A- I give the selection of Cooper by the Raiders an A. I feel this was one of the best selections in the entire 2015 NFL Draft. I love the route running ability Cooper has and the best attribute I see from Cooper is his speed.

He has breakaway speed not only after the catch, but he runs his routes fast. He is decisive when he runs his routes and he hits another gear to gain huge “yards after catch.”

This pick was my favorite in the top five and I believe he will go on to be a pro bowler in the near future. If he can consistently get the ball in good positions from Raider quarterback Derek Carr, then his career will be elevated that much more.

Last but not least is the fifth pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, Leonard Williams to the New York Jets.

Draft grade: B- Our final grade is for the Jets’ selection of Leonard Williams from Southern California. I believe he will be a decent pass rusher at the NFL level, but his biggest strength will be stopping the run off the edges.

Williams has good mobility and nice speed that will help him rush the passer when put in third and long situations. This pick will be one that may actually work out for the Jets and help get them back on the winning track in the very near future.

Tennessee Titans: Grading Each Pick Of The 2015 NFL Draft

Marcus Mariota, QB - Oregon

Marcus Mariota is an enigmatic quarterback that offers head coach Ken Whisenhunt something that comes outside of his conventional comfort zone. A spread, quick twitch quarterback as opposed to Whisenhunts' normal pocket passer only approach. Mariota has some serious talent, his demeanour and leadership style already have Titans' fans reminiscing on those Steve 'Air' McNair glory days.

Dual threat quarterbacks have been a staple in Tennesse, and after struggling to find a true franchise quarterback since McNair, the Titans' office decided to pull the trigger and take Mariota No.2 overall. Many disliked the choice when information dropped about the massive trade offer Chip Kelly proposed to try and acquire his old Alma Mater. I applaud the Titans' for staying true to themselves and picking the player they thought would 'dynamize' the stagnant offense from last season.

Mariota flying high with the ducks

Former starter Jake Locker has retired from the NFL and former LSU sixth-round draft pick Zach Mettenberger did not provide the spark the offense needed, so the Titans decided to go with a player who can open up a number of playbooks for them. Play actions, rollouts and options may become the staple of the Titans' new offensive make-up in 2015.

As one of the highly rated quarterbacks in this draft class, he was the number one quarterback on Mike Mayocks big board pre-draft, the Titans' may just have found that franchise cornerstone they have been lacking to break that visage of anonymity in the AFC South. Mariota provides a skill set that Whisenhunt has already said he will cater too, in order to make Mariotas' transition to the NFL as easy and as quick as possible.

Mariota is a player who can have a sandbox affect whilst playing, when that pocket collapses he showed a constant knack for being able to extend plays at Oregon, and if the Titans' offensive line remains as porous as last season, then he will need to use these skills to the best of his ability.

The big knock on Marcus Mariota is that he is a 'system' quarterback. Regardless of systems, the person playing in the quarterback position still needs to be able to make the throws, Mariota was doing this with ease, poise and great decision making ability. His defensive playbook knowledge was put on display when he wowed Jon Gruden with his knowledge, Gruden then moved him to his top quarterback selection of the 2015 draft. Knowledge of defensive play books is key to recognizing the required reads quickly enough on the field.

So for Marcus Mariota it is Mahalo Oregon and Aloha Tennesee. The fan base seems to have overwhelming support for Mariota and the 2014 season starting campaign - "Suck for the Duck" seems to have come full circle, now it is up to this organization to get Mariota to reach his ceiling.

Draft Grade B+

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR - Oaklahoma State

Green-Beckham has two big names to live up to, his last name maks many think that he can be a combinaiton of AJ Green and Odell Beckham Jr. Whilst his limited sample size showed that he had some truly elite measurables and pass catching ability, his red flags off the field might concern a few of the Titans' faithful. However, Tennessee Titans scout Brandon Taylor said that he admires Dorials' character and his reformed behavior after being red-shirted at Oklahoma State after Missouri dismissed him.

Multiple drugs related offenses off the field had a lot of Titans' supporters thinking; "Oh no, not Kenny Britt all over again." Contrary to that thought, DGB as he is affectionately known, has shown remorse for his actions that led to his dismissal and said to Brandon Taylor that he will do anything to make sure that he doesn't make the same mistakes again. If anything the NFL is the home of second chances.

If we take away DGB's off-field indiscretions then he is a sure fire top 3 wide receiver from this draft class, having drawn comparisons from Mike Mayock, Brian Baldinger and Mel Kiper Jr as a player akin to a young Randy Moss, apparently the sky seems to be the limit for this young superstar in the making.

At 6"5 and 237lbs he recorded 12 touchdowns whilst at Missouri as well as 883 receiving yards on 59 receptions. A very small sample size, but his strength and speed combination make him a red zone threat that will help Mariotas' development. DGB has already gone on record saying that he looks forward to working well with Mariota and feels that they will both bring the best out of one another. Having a big target is never a bad thing for a rookie quarterback who will need all the help he can get.

The expectation is that DGB can be that field stretching over-the-top Randy Moss type of guy that worked so well for the New England Patriots. For Titans' fans, they can only hope that is how it plays out, it has been a long time between playoff appearances.

Draft Grade A-

Jeremiah Poutasi, OT - Utah

Poutasi is a big bodied tackle, who is able to slide into the interior of the offensive line. In what looks to be a pure depth drafting after signing free-agent OT Byron Bell, Poutasi will be given time to develop into that slide protection blocker that Whisenhunt will need if he is to keep his new star quarterback off his back.

In college, Poutasi took 846 snaps and allowed only three sacks during his career, that is a very impressive stat-line. At 6"5 and 335lb, that is a some serious meat added to the Titans' offensive line. Health also is not a major concern with this draftee, playing in 36-37 matches and starting 35. Poutasi was also a second-team ALL PAC-12 selection in 2014.

The offensive line acquired a young talent at 20-years of age and he shows a lot of promise, the knocks against Poutasi however are that he has slow hands and does not show the quickness in his feet when required to move into protection. This could be a red-flag for Mariota' health.

Draft Grade C+

Angelo Blackson, DT - Auburn

Angelo Blackson is a big bodied defensive tackle who is capable of drawing multiple blockers. At 6"4 and 318lbs, the Titans' added a big frame with wide shoulders to their defensive line. Defense is certainly a sore point for the Titans' and Blackson has a real chance to be a day one starter if he can prove why he was selected throughout pre-season training.

Stopping the run is one area that the Titans' needed to improve upon, adding Blackson to the middle of their defensive front adds the beef to eat up multiple blockers for the linebacker groups to get in at the running backs as well as the quarterback - something that was sorely missed last season.

Draft Grade B-

Jalston Fowler, FB - Alabama

The surprise pick of the Titans' draft class. Fowler is a dynamic player who can be utilized in multiple positions. Having lined up as a TE, FB and HB as well as being a versatile special teamer. Fowler showed at Alabama what a good blocker can do for a running game. If not for Fowler than T.J. Yeldon would not have come off the board.

Adding that H-Blocker to the backfield is something that will help the development of both Bishop Sankey and Marcus Mariota. Not only with the added benefit of blocking for Mariota, he gives him a bonafide receiving threat as he leaves his college career with seven receiving touchdowns. The added bonus with Fowler is he is big, at 6"1 and 248lbs, he could play a vital role in the development of the new franchise quarterback.

Draft Grade B

David Cobb, RB - Minnesota

David Cobb was a smart selection by the Tennessee Titans. Whilst he isn't a speedy, twitch runner, he provides that battering north-south style that veteran RB Shonn Greene has not been able to provide. With Cobb in the mix, the Titans' will be able to run a lot of full house sets, adding multiple ball catchers to help Mariota progress through his reads.

With this pick, the Titans' addressed a big issue on their offense, last season Bishop Sankey was almost non-existent. Cobb will be able to were down defenses running between the tackles. A smart choice as Whisenhunt reverts the Titans' back to a power run offense.

Draft Grade C+

Deiontrez Mount, OLB - Louiseville

Deiontrez Mount comes in to fill a depth issue. Mount has an uphill battle to try and get playing time, but he has the height and speed combination to be a good situational pass rusher. His long arms are good for pass protection, but his tacking issues could have thrown up red flags in the Titans' war-room, but they drafted Mount regardless.

The Titans' needed bodies on defense and Mount will be sitting behind Brown and Gooden on the depth chart.

Draft Grade C-

Andy Gallik, C - Boston College

Before the NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans needed to address the middle of their offensive line. Brian Schwenke has proven to be unreliable and is developing slower than the coaching staff would have liked. This was a smart choice by the Titans'. Gallik is a potential starter in the NFL, at 6"2 and 306lbs he certainly has the measurables to be an NFL center.

Adding depth is always an intelligent move, with the numerous injuries the Titans' offensive line had last season, their lack of depth was exposed. The offensive line was attributed with over 50 teams sacks, if you want your quarterback to be a franchise quarterback, he needs some security and Gallik can provide that.

Draft Grade B-

Tre McBride, WR - William & Mary

The slide of Tre McBride was interesting. McBride had plenty of suitors prior to the draft and was even expected to go as high as the fourth round on some big boards. The Titans' added depth at a skill position with not a great deal of talent. Now the Titans' have an extremely young and dangerous looking offense.

The William & Mary product could be spending some time with the special teamers however, before he gets a chance to play in the big leagues, for a depth addition, it was a smart move by the Tennessee Titans.

Draft Grade C

The Tennessee Titans' had a lot of positions that needed to be addressed, most of these were on the offensive side of the ball. The Titans' defense last season was against the odds as they were on the field more than they weren't. Adding some key elements to the offense and altering the way in which offensive plays are called to suit these new draftees, the Titans' have changed the face of this offense in one draft class.

The defense saw a lot of attention during free agency, whether or not it was enough attention remains to be seen. But, the changes that were made on offense are very refreshing for the people of Nashville, who have not seen so many risks taken during a draft process since the Oilers became the Tennessee Titans. This draft class, could prove to be the first stepping stone that helps this organization change its fortunes.

Overall Draft Grade - A

2015 NFL Draft 1st Round Recap and Fantasy Football Impact

Quick recap of the 1st Round with an emphasis on the impact these players will have on Fantasy Football. As always, the landing spot for these rookies is just as significant as their talent/ability. We’ll wait until the Draft is complete to publish our initial rookie rankings. Until then, get to know this year’s 1st round picks.

Quarterbacks:

Jameis Winston, 1st Overall, Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Despite some serious off the field concerns and maturity issues, the Buccaneers selected the former Florida State QB with the 1st overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact: With two super-star wide receivers already on the roster in Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, Winston won’t have to worry about the lack of weapons. Pegged as the most “Pro-Ready” QB prospect in this year’s draft, it would be a major shock if Winston isn’t starting under-center in Week 1.

Marcus Mariota, 2nd Overall, Tennessee Titans

So much speculation and rumor based reporting heading into the draft led everyone to believe the Titans were willing to trade away the Number 2 pick to either the Chicago Bears or Philadelphia Eagles. But the Tennessee’s asking price for the 2nd second proved to be to expensive. The result? The Titans take the former Oregon QB and reigning Heisman Trophy Winner.

Fantasy Impact: Coach Ken Whisenhunt has proven to get the most out of his QBs and admitted in the off-season he would cater his offense to suit Mariota’s strengths. That being said, we’d be lying if we didn’t LOVE the idea of Mariota re-joining his former Ducks Coach from a purely selfish Fantasy Football standpoint. With Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter beginning to emerge as solid receivers, Mariota has a good supporting cast of playmakers that he can grow with at the start of his career. Will Mariota beat out the incumbent starter, Zach Mettenberger? Our guess would be a resounding YES!!!!

Running Backs:

Todd Gurley, 10th Overall, St. Louis Rams:

A clear decision to take best player available, the Rams selected former Georgia rusher, Todd Gurley who many consider the second coming of Adrian Peterson with the 10th overall pick. If it wasn’t for a torn ACL last November, Gurley may have very well been a Top 5 pick.

Fantasy Impact: At 6’1, 227 pounds, Gurley has the size of a bruising and punishing rusher but the sblazing peed and shiftiness of a smaller scat back. Plain and simple he’s the total package. The major question of course is the status of his surgically repaired knee. If everything checks out without any set backs over the summer, Gurley will be the starter in Week 1 and certainly has the potential to be a Top 12 RB right out of the gate. Tre Mason will take a back-seat to Gurley and Zac Stacy has already asked to be traded.

Melvin Gordon, 15th Overall, San Diego Chargers:

The Chargers swapped picks with the 49ers and moved up the board to nab the former Wisconsin rusher with the 15th overall pick. Teams were shying away from selecting running backs in the 1st round in the last few years, but Gordon was the 2nd RB taken in the Top 15 picks (Todd Gurley 10th overall).

Fantasy Impact: With the departure of Ryan Mathews, the Chargers needed a new work-horse RB. Danny Woodhead is coming off an ACL tear and once healthy will likely just take on a 3rd down role. Gordon didn’t display his receiving skills a lot during his College career but he sure as hell proved he can tote the rock. Gordon finished on top of all NCAA D1 RBs with an eye popping 2,587 yards.

Wide Receivers:

Amari Cooper, 4th Overall, Oakland Raiders

There were some draft pundits who ranked Kevin White (7th overall Bears) ahead of Amari Cooper, but with the 4th overall pick, the Raiders selected the Alabama standout. Thanks to his precise route running and body control, Cooper is the most “Pro-Ready” receiver in this year’s class and has drawn comparison to Reggie Wayne and former Raiders WR Tim Brown.

Fantasy Impact: It seems the Raiders found their franchise QB last year with Derek Carr and now pair him up with their franchise WR. Cooper will have an instant impact in the Raiders passing attack which has lacked a few playmakers in recent years. Typically we would be bummed when one of our favorite rookie prospects ends up on a team like the Raiders, but Cooper (like a Sammy Watkins in 2014) should have no problem emerging as a solid WR3 in  Fantasy despite playing for a bad team.

Kevin White, 7th Overall, Chicago Bears

After a terrific showing at the NFL Combine and breakout season at West Virginia last year, White’s draft stock skyrocketed. In an effort to fill the void left by Brandon Marshall, the Bears invested their 7th overall selection in the 6’3 wide-out.

Fantasy Impact: Given his size, strength, and speed, White has drawn comparisons to Terrell Owens. He’s blazing fast (4.35 40 yard dash), 36.5 inch vertical leap, and a solid muscular build (210 pounds) but his route running is a bit unpolished. He’ll join the Bears as the team’s Number 2 wideout behind Alshon Jeffery. Unfortunately a lot of White’s initial success is tied to Jay Cutler, which we aren’t  necessarily thrilled about, but there are much worse QB situations around the league that White could have landed in.

DeVante Parker, 14th Overall, Miami Dolphins

The glaring need for a true Number 1 wide receiver led the Dolphins to select DeVante Parker with their 1st round pick (14th overall). A big bodied (6’3, 211 pounds) receiver, Parker displayed tremendous toughness at Louisville and consistently showed excellent body control and concentration. Seems Parker always won the “jump ball” over defenders, thanks to strong hands, superior leaping ability, and long frame. Drops won’t be an issue for Ryan Tannehill’s new target

Fantasy Impact: The Dolphins are making serious noise this off-season by bringing in some serious weapons for Ryan Tannehill. Tight End Jordan Cameron and receivers Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings were solid acquisitions. Now add in Parker along with second year PPR stud in the making, Jarvis Landry, and Miami has one of those offenses that may take that next step into the upper echelon in 2015. Parker may not win the starting job right away (seasoned veterans typically get the edge in camp), but likely will emerge as the starter by year’s end.

Nelson Agholor, 20th Overall, Philadelphia Eagles

Dubbed the second best route runner behind Amari Cooper, the Eagles drafted Nelson Agholor out of USC with the 20th overall pick. Capable of playing in the slot and the outside, Agholor can also contribute on Special Teams as a return man.

Fantasy Impact; The Eagles lost their leading receiver, Jeremy Maclin, in the off-season and you know dam well Chip Kelly wasn’t going to rely on Riley Cooper to start opposite of Jordan Matthews. So what do the Eagles do? Draft a Jeremy Maclin like clone with the former USC Trojan. Forget about all the trade talk non-sense with Marcus Mariota, the Eagles still have a solid offense even with Sam Bradford at the helm and Agholor will surely benefit from Chip Kelley’s receiver friendly offense.

Breshad Perriman, 26th Overall, Baltimore Ravens

After missing the NFL Combine due to an injury, UCF’s Breshad Perriman set the NFL world abuzz after an insane 4.24 40 yard dash at his Pro Day. Combine the 40 time with his size (6’2) and a great 2014 season (1st team All-American Athletic Conference), Perriman is the type of receiver prospect NFL GM’s drool over. With an aging Steve Smith and void left by Torrey Smith, the Ravens drafted Perriman with the 26th overall pick.

Fantasy Impact: A bit raw in terms of running routes and a bit maddening with some of his dropped passes, Perriman’s potential outweighs his shortcomings. Great blend of size and speed, the Ravens needed a deep threat to take advantage of Joe Flacco’s big arm. Get ready to watch a lot of deep routes, long bombs, and Perriman blowing past defenders with ease.

Phillip Dorsett, 29th Overall, Indianapolis Colts

Despite a boat load of talented receivers (TY Hilton, Andre Johnson, Donte Moncfief) the Colts stuck to their guns in the 1st Round and took best player available on their board regardless of positional need. The result? Indy drafts former Miami Hurricane wide receiver Philip Dorsett with the 29th overall pick.

Fantasy Impact: You’ll be hard pressed to find a team with more weapons on Offense than the Colts. They are LOADED!!!! With Hilton entering the final year of his rookie contract, a lot of analysts immediately pegged Dorsett has Hilton’s replacement. After all, the two are very similar in size and ability. Like Hilton, Dorsett is a speedster (4.33 yard dash) and great downfield threat, but at just 5’10, 185 pounds, he’s not a big red-zone target.

2015 NFL Draft: 5 Best Picks of the 1st Round

The first round of the 2015 NFL Draft is in the books

The first round is officially over, and it is time to look at the best picks in round one.

1. Washington Redskins: OL Brandon Scherff- Iowa

This was the best pick of the first round. No matter who the quarterback was for the Redskins they were always getting beat up. Leonard Williams was stil on the board at this time, but the Redskins looked past him and addressed arguably their biggest needed. This was a great pick for Washington.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers: OLB Bud Dupree- Kentucky

This talented young prospect fell right into the Steelers' lap. They could not pass up an opportunity to draft this player. Their pass rush was weak last year, and along with losing two players in their secondary they need to get to the quarterback quick. Bud Dupree was a great pick for Pittsburgh. He will be a beast.

3. Tennessee Titans- QB Marcus Mariota- Oregon

After much speculation that they may have wanted to move this pick, they get their QB. Marcus Mariota is a terrific quarterback that will thrive in the NFL. He has all the abilities and all the potenital in the world to be a starter for a long time in Nashville. When you think you have a chance to get your franchise QB you take it, and the Titans did.

4. San Diego Chargers- RB Melvin Gordon- Wisconsin

After losing Ryan Mathews this season is essential that the Chargers get a runningback, and they do so at pick 15 with Melvin Gordon. He is an all around great runningback that will add a whole different dimension to that offense. He is much more durable the Mathews was, so Chargers fans can expect to see him on the field a lot.

5. New England Patriots- DT Malcom Brown- Texas

After Laken Tomlinson was drafted by Detroit many expected the Patriots to trade out of the first round. The Colts helped the Patriots stay in the first round by drafting WR Phillip Dorsett. Many thought that the Colts would draft Brown, and when they didn't the Patriots could not pass him up. With Brown and Easley, the Patriots can transition to a 4-3 defense and have quickly developed a very strong front seven. Experts thought that Brown would be long gone by the Patriots pick. So it is safe to say that at 32 the Patriots got great value in Malcom Brown.

NFL Draft: Trade Rumors Still Link Mariota to Philadelphia Eagles

Since Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy last winter, the rumors have circled that Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly would, at all costs, acquire the man he once recruited to play quarterback at the University of Oregon.

And no matter how much Kelly publicly denies he would not trade up in this year's draft for Mariota, the rumors continue to fly. Even the most outragous ones.

Two pretty ridiculous trade rumors broke this week from two different sources. Each one laid out a scenario in which the Eagles would be invovled in a three-team trade in order to acquire the No. 2 overall pick and then select Mariota.

Let's lay out both scenarios:

Scenario No. 1 accoding to NBC Sports

Teams invovled: Eagles, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns

Browns receive quarterback Sam Bradford and 2016 first-round pick from Philadelphia

Titans receive both the No. 12 and No. 19 overall picks from Browns and No. 20 overall pick from Eagles

Eagles receive No. 2 overall pick from Titans

Scenario No. 2 according to Rant Sports

Teams invovled: Eagles, Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers

Chargers receive Bradford and No. 20 overall pick from Eagles and Titans' second-round pick

Titans receive quarterback Philip Rivers from Chargers and Eagles' third-round pick

Eagles receive No. 2 overall pick from Titans

It is extremely difficult to tell which scenario, if either, is more likely to happen, but if one connects the dots, there could certainly be some truth to these rumors.

It doesn't make much for the Chargers to keep Rivers on their roster for the 2015 season unless the franchise has a change in heart and doesn't move to Los Angeles. Rivers will walk at the end of the 2015 season, and since the Chargers are not a Super Bowl contender at this very moment, it makes sense to rebuild with a younger quarterback. Whether San Diego GM Tom Telesco prefers to rebuild with Bradford or Mariota is anyone's guess.

The fact Cleveland has been mentioned with these trade rumors also makes a lot of sense. Rams quarterback Jeff Fisher said after the team traded Braford to the Eagles that St. Louis received a late first-round pick offer for Bradford, but prefered to go with Philadelphia's offer because Fisher liked Nick Foles. It is still somewhat of a mystery who that team was that offered its first round pick for Bradford, but many believe it was Cleveland. The Browns are a franchise in dire need of a franchise quarterback and could use their first round picks as a means to trade for one.

Of course, that is also depend on Cleveland not wanting Mariota over Bradford. Theoretically, if Cleveland wants Mariota, they could offer Tennessee both its first round picks in exchange for the No. 2 pick.

Both scenarios would also work for the Eagles and Titans. Philadelphia wouldn't have to mortage the future in order for Kelly to get his guy, and the Titans would either get a plethora of first-round picks or Rivers, a perfect fit for head coach Ken Whisenhunt's offense.

NFL 2015 Draft: Predicting Seattle Seahawks 2015 NFL Draft Picks

The Seattle Seahawks will not have a draft pick the first day of the draft...yet.  Don't worry they still have 11 picks in the 2015 NFL Draft.  And we all know that the Seahawks excel in finding the diamonds in the rough.  And oh by they way, did you hear?  They acquired tight end Jimmy Graham in free agency?  But they also lost left guard James Carpenter and center Max Unger.

So the Seahawks will enter the draft with some needs.  They need to address a need for left guard, a center, maybe another running back, a wide receiver and maybe even a quarterback?

Here are some possibilities for the team that excels in draft strategy:

Round 2: Pick 63

Ali Marpet, Guard 6'4", 307 lbs, Arm Length 33 3/8, Hands 10"

The offensive line is the main concern for the Seahawks this season.  He is a good fit for the blocking scheme the Seahawks utilize.

Round 3: Pick 95

Grady Jarrett, Defensive Tackle, 6'1", 304 lbs, Arm Length 32 3/8", Hands 10"

Okay so I know I stressed the offensive side of the ball, but the Seahawks need a back-up for Brandon Mebane and his hamstring issues.

The NFL scouting reports: " Jarrett is a perfect shade-nose fit for teams looking for a disruptive force in a one gap penetrating front."

Round 4: Pick 112

Reese Dismukes, Center, 6'3", 296 lbs, Arm Length 32 1/4", Hands 8 7/8"

Marpet is listed as a center but look for the Seahawks to move him to left guard.  This is the pick they got from the New Orleans Saints for Max Unger.  It is only reasonable that they get his replacement here.

Dismukes shined in the Senior Bowl.  He demonstrated good awareness in pass protection.  And with newly acquired weapon of Graham that is a good thing.

Round 4: Pick 130

Stefon, Diggs, Wide Receiver, 6'0", 195 lbs, Arm Length 31 1/4", Hands 10"

Does not excel in long speed.  But would make a good slot receiver.  Makes things happen when he gets the ball.

Round 4: Pick 134

Jordan Hicks, OLB, 6'1", 236 lbs, Arm Length 32", Hands 10"

NFL draft profile states, "Hicks is an improving player who will live in the film room and might end up overdrafted on the upside potential."

Round 5: Pick 167

Chris Conley, Wide Receiver, 6'2", 213 lbs, Arm Length 33 3/4", Hands 9 7/8"

Comes from a run heavy college offense.  At the Combine he blazed the 40 yard dash in 4.35 seconds.  When he did get the ball he demonstrated productivity after the catch.

Round 5: Pick 170

Justin Cox, Cornerback, 6'1", 191 lbs, Arm Length 31 1/4", Hands 9"

Gone is Byron Maxwell.  Not so good was Tharold Simon.  An NFC East Scout reports, "We have him as a draft reject based on character and his overall tape."

Can you describe a more cookie cutter Seahawks late round draft pick than that?

Round 6: Pick 181

Tyler Varga, Running Back, 5'11", 222 lbs, Arm Length 30 3/8", Hands 10 5/8"

Varga is a tweener.  Will be caught between fullback and running back.  But is adept at catching the ball out of the backfield and is an instinctive runner.  Willl also serve team well on special teams.

Round 6: Pick 209

Nick Boyle, Tight End, 6'4", 268 lbs, Arm Length 33 3/8", Hands 10 3/8"

He needs work as a receiving threat.  Shows promise as a blocking tight end.  Working behind Graham will make him better.

Round 6: Pick 214

Connor Halliday, Quarterback, 6'3", 196 lbs, Arm Length 31 1/4", Hands 8 3/8"

He is coming off  a season ending broken leg.  In 2014, before the leg injury, he completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in nine games.

He does however come from the spread system, so may need some time to adjust.

Round 7: Pick 248

Nick Seither, Defensive End/OLB, 6'3", 255 lbs

Predicting what the Seahawks or anyone will do is, let's face it a crap shot.  Mainly because we all expect Chip Kelly to do something crazy beautiful.  We want the San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans to do anything expectedly unexpected.

It's draft day and it's on!
