Will Muschamp: Both Gator Quarterbacks Will Play Saturday

Will Muschamp did the right thing and set the table early for his Florida Gators when he announced that both Jeff Driskel and Treon Harris will both play in the game on Saturday versus Missouri.

Driskel was behind center for the entire game on Saturday night in a 30-27 loss at home against LSU.

Harris did not play following a tumultuous week where the freshman was accused of an alleged sexual assault, removed from the football program indefinitely, and then allowed to return to the team when the accusation was recanted.

This weekend, Muschamp plans to use the leadership of Driskel and the ability of Harris in the home game against the Tigers.

“They both will play this week and we’ll work through the week, and we’ll see how things go,’’ Muschamp said on gatorzone.com. “Right now Jeff will probably start but they’re both going to play.”

Driskel entered the season as the clear-cut No. 1 quarterback with Harris edging out fellow true freshman Will Grier for the backup job. The situation became muddled when Harris replaced a struggling Driskel at Tennessee and led the Gators on a pair of fourth-quarter scoring drives in a 10-9 win.

As the investigation played out last week, Driskel returned to business as usual and started Saturday’s 30-27 loss against LSU, completing 14 of 25 passes for 183 yards, two interceptions and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, cleared by the university to rejoin the team on Friday when the woman dropped her sexual battery complaint, Harris watched Saturday’s game from the coaches’ box along with offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.

Harris has appeared in two games and thrown only six passes, but in each outing he has done something memorable. In a 65-0 win over Eastern Michigan in the season opener, Harris came in during mop-up duty and threw two passes – both touchdowns, 78-yarder to Demarcus Robinson and 70-yarder to Mark Herndon

HARGREAVES TO RETURN (VIA TAMPABAY.COM)

Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves is expected to return to practice on Tuesday after suffering a head injury in Saturday night's loss to LSU.

Hargreaves was injured late in the second quarter and missed all of the second half.

Gators defensive tackle Leon Orr (Port Richey) is questionable for Saturday's game with a knee injury.

"We thought he’d be back by now but we’ll see how he works through this week," Florida coach Will Muschamp said.

Running back Matt Jones (Armwood) could be back in practice on Wednesday. He also missed the second half of Saturday's game with an ankle injury he suffered earlier in practice last week. Muschamp said Jones "felt it was a little loose in the game", which is why he was held out.

Also, offensive lineman D.J. Humphries injured his knee in the game, but is expected back at practice on Wednesday.

Wide Receiver Latroy Pittman, who was injured in a collision with 24 seconds remaining in the LSU game and had to be taken off on a cart, was released from the hospital on Sunday, but isn't cleared to return to practice.

"Everything’s come out fine, he’s day-to-day." Muschamp said. "Everything is checked out to be normal."

Pittman's status for the Missouri game is still up in the air.

"I don’t want to go out on a limb right now," Muschamp said. "Everything, thank goodness, take football out of the equation, is fine. There’s a good possibility he’s going to get some physical activity today and tomorrow and we’ll kind of move from there, but until the doctors tell me he's good to go right now, no. But I’m not going to rule it out.”
