Sen'Derrick Marks Signs Extension and Other Jaguars News & Notes

Marks The Jacksonville Jaguars has reaped the benefits of Sen’Derrick Marks and his play along the defensive line this season. Now, the team that signed him to a one-year free agent contract this season have rewarded him for his service.
According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, “The new deal is worth up to $22 million, according to a source informed of the deal. Marks signed a one-year, $1.5 million prove it contract with the Jaguars this past offseason after the second-round draft pick spent four years with the Tennessee Titans."
Marks may be the best free agent signing for the team. His pressure up the middle has been one of the few bright spots with a pass rush that has been nonexistent for most of the season.
According to John Oehser of Jaguars.com, Marks started every game, playing 890 snaps in the first 15 games – the most of any Jaguars defensive lineman and the fifth-most of any defensive player on the team. He had the second-highest grade on the defense according to Pro Football Focus, and was consistently effective as an interior pass rusher, registering four sacks, 11 quarterback hits and 24 hurries. He also batted down a team high seven passes.
Marks and fellow free agent signee Roy Miller were signed in the offseason with the idea they would provide help against the run while getting to the quarterback. Miller has been injured most of the season and was placed on injured reserve last week and will not play in the team’s final game of the season against Indianapolis.
Signing Marks to a long-term deal mean that is one less hole this team must fill in the offseason.
Preparing for Sunday
The Colts came to EverBank Field and won 37-3 in the early part of the season. The Jaguars must use Novocaine to forget the debacle that happened back then. The Jaguars are a different team since then.
The Colts had Trent Richardson for that game and expected him to be one of the centerpieces of this franchise. Now, he will be lucky if the team doesn’t drop him to the third team after the season is over. Gus Bradley and his team are preparing for quarterback Andrew Luck and TY Hilton, but are certainly aware of Donald Brown, Richardson and the Colts running game.
Look for the Jaguars to rush from the outside and use the speed of Ryan Davis and Andre Branch, who has come on as the team’s best end this season.
The team will be limited with the loss Geno Hayes and Russell Allen, both linebackers were placed on injured reserve.
