2014 Fantasy Football Champs and Chumps: Week 5

Quarterback Champs:

Peyton Manning 31/47 479 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INT- 34.6 fantasy points

Peyton. Just an absolute beast.  He replaces his brother at the top from last week. The numbers could have been even more monstrous if the Emmanuel Sanders and the third  77-yard Demaryius touchdown would have stood…

Austin Davis- 29/49, 375 yards, 3 TDs, 2 FUMBLES- 26 fantasy points

He started off pretty slow, but the kid was slinging the rock in the second half! He nearly brought his team back from what would have been the largest come-from-behind second half deficit in NFL history. Regardless, an awesome spot-start for those who had the rocks to do so.

Philip Rivers- 20/28, 288 yards, 3 TDs, INT– 21.7 fantasy points

Consistent as ever, and quietly having an MVP-esque season. Keep rolling with Rivers. Don’t fight the current, bro.

Quarterback Chumps:

Geno Smith- 4/12, 27 yards, INT–NEGATIVE 0.7 fantasy points

You had to see this benching coming after the Jets fans were booing him off the field last week… Kind of sad to watch and the Jets are in absolute disarray.

Blake Bortles- 22/36, 191 yards, 2 INTs, – 5 fantasy points

This game was pretty uneventful from the get-go, with nothing really happening offensively on either side. Bortles couldn’t match what Glennon did to the Steel curtain last week…

Running Back Champs:

Brandon Oliver-19 Rush, 114 yards, TD; 4 Rec, 68 yards TD- 30.2 fantasy points

HOLY COMING OUT PARTY, DARREN OLIVER! Keep in mind, this was against the “stout” Jets run defense. Must have been a little jet lag going on. Regardless, what exactly does this mean? Because it seems that they have found a new Darren Sproles (same number too, weird), who has now solidified himself a significant role in the offense…

Arian Foster- 23 Rush, 157 yards 2 TDs; 2 Rec, 15 yards– 29.2 fantasy points

Questionable? PSHHHHH. FEED THE GUY. I love watching him do the little “Namaste,” Asian-Bow thing. Maybe I’ll start videoing myself doing that after I finish off fantasy opponents…

Andre Ellington- 16 Rush, 32 yards TD; 4 Rec, 112 yards, TD - 23.4 fantasy points

It’s about time. Jeez! Ok, so it wasn’t all that pretty on the ground, but you give the guy twenty touches and this is what happens. Let’s keep this party going, Ellington owners, what do you say?

Running Back Chumps:

Chris Johnson- 7 Rush, 24 yards; Rec, -2 yards, FUMBLE -0.2 fantasy points

It was bad on the ground all day for the Jets, but CJ2K is fading fast. Nothing more than a bye week flex option, and he’s skating a fine line at that…

C.J. Spiller- 10 Rush, 8 yards, 3 Rec, 25 yards-3.3 fantasy points

Fred Jackson, on the other hand, had 17 touches and was far more productive, gaining 107 total yards. Jackson, DID leave with a right leg injury, though, so monitor that this week, because it could effect C.J.’s value this upcoming week against New England.

Wide Receiver Champs:

Demaryius Thomas- 8 Rec, 226 yards, 2 TDs- 34.6 fantasy points

Eight catches on 16 targets for a franchise-record 226 receiving yards and two touchdowns… THAT’S AWESOME. He hadn’t even had 65 yards in any other game this season, so this was a nice little surprise! Hopefully you didn’t “get Demaryius Thomased” and YOU did the “Demaryius Thomasing.”

Kendall Wright- 6 Rec, 47 yards, 2 TDs; 2 Rushes, 43 yards- 21 fantasy points

Touchdowns. They are nice. We like them.

Golden Tate-7 Rec, 134 yards, TD -19.4 fantasy points

With Calvin banged up, this cocky little shrimp had a pretty nice day. Sorry, it just bothered me watching him “Chi Chi Rodriguez,” pretend sword-fight after a 15-yard first down catch that wasn’t that significant.

Wide Receiver Chumps:

Calvin Johnson- 1 Rec, 7 yards- 0.7 fantasy points

I know he’s hurt, and re-injured his ankle in the game, but like I said… If MEGATRON puts up stats like this, he’s going to ride the chump train.

Michael Crabtree- 1 Rec, 16 yards- 1.6 fantasy points

Put the quarter in the merry-go-round [cue circus music]. Can’t stand this. No Vernon Davis and now Stevie J, emerging. Red arrow for Crabtree.

Steve Smith Sr.-  5 Rec, 34 yards, FUMBLE-1.4 fantasy points

Come on, you had to see this coming. If you didn’t, shame on you. #BackDownToEarth

Tight End Champs:

Greg Olsen- 6 Rec, 72 yards, 2 TDs- 19.2 fantasy points

The ultimate value tight end. He’s been one of the more “consistently delightful” tight end options this season. Keep it up, Greggy boy!

Julius Thomas- 6 Rec, 66 yards, 2 TDs- 18.6 fantasy points

Peyton just looks for “Orange Julius” in the end zone. Period. Will remain a top 3 tight end all season long.

Antonio Gates- 4 Rec, 60 yards, 2 TDs- 18 fantasy points

Pick a side Gates. Seriously, we are losing our hair over here. #ChumpToChamp

Tight End Chumps:

Larry Donnell- ZERO catches, ZERO yards- ZERO fantasy points

Hahaha. Hopefully none of you traded too much for a ZERO point performance. I still like him moving forward, but with the emergence of Odell Beckham Jr., I move Donnell down a few slots in the TE rankings.

Martellus Bennett-3 Rec, 17 yards- 1.7 fantasy points

Martellus about your bad day, bro…

Star Rookie Watch:

Sammy Watkins- 7 Rec, 87 yards- 8.7 fantasy points

Sammy wins the week 5 “rookie blue ribbon.” He’s an ok flex option (high end PPR flex option).

Brandin Cooks- 9 Rec, 56 yards; 2 Rush, 15 yards- 7.1 fantasy points

Again, love the guy…in PPR. With Graham as an absolute red zone monster, don’t expect him to see the endzone much unless he breaks a few.

Kelvin Benjamin- 3 Rec, 38 yards, FUMBLE- 1.8 fantasy points

Eh. Blah. Still love him moving forward as a definite top 20 option the rest of the way.

**Note: Fantasy points denote standard, non-PPR scoring.
