FSU: Thomas Has Suspension Lifted For Game Against Notre Dame

In what can only be explained as the biggest game of the year for both the Florida State Seminoles and the Notre Dame fighting Irish, the news of the week continues to hover around Jameis Winston and continued accusations about improper behavior. While the campus in Tallahassee is trying to remain focused on the game on Saturday, not the off-field distractions that seem to attempt to shake this team, the Seminoles got some good news on Monday that could help this program this weekend.

Football Nation has learned that Warchant.com has confirmed with a source close to the Florida State football program that linebacker Matthew Thomas' suspension has been lifted. As a result, the former five-star recruit will be eligible to play in this Saturday's top-five match-up against Notre Dame.

Thomas had been serving an "indefinite suspension" for violation of team rules. The suspension, which was announced in early September, lasted for FSU's first six games.

The redshirt freshman linebacker missed FSU's season opener with an ankle injury before the suspension was announced. He was slated to compete for a starting spot on FSU's defense before the season began and is expected to give the Seminoles a boost in their pass rush.

The addition of Thomas, along with redshirt sophomore Ukeme Eligwe, who recently returned to action after recovering from a Lisfranc (foot) injury, should give the the linebacker unit much needed depth. Eligwe sat out the Syracuse game, however, and his status is not yet known for Notre Dame.

Both Rashad Greene and Nick O’Leary moved into the school’s record books in Saturday’s 38-20 win over Syracuse.

Greene netted six catches for 107 yards to become FSU's all-time leader in receptions. O'Leary had eight receptions for 97 yards and touchdown to set the school's career mark for catches by a tight end.

"Rashad and Nick man, I'm blessed to have two guys like that," said FSU quarterback Jameis Winston, who is more than happy to do the talking for his soft-spoken teammates. "It means so much to me that I can say I'm their quarterback and they hold these records for Florida State. Rashad is like my brother, and Nick is my brother from another mother and another color.

Ron Sellers' record of 212 career catches stood for 46 years. Greene, who was questionable for the earlier part of the week after suffering a concussion, surpassed Sellers on a screen pass that he turned into 44-yard gain in the second quarter.
