Who Replaces Jim Harbaugh in San Francisco?

If there was a song that best explained Jim Harbaugh and how he coaches the San Francisco 49ers, it would be “My Way” by Sinatra. There is no other way to describe the ins and outs of a man who takes a team to three straight NFC Championships games, has a dual-threat quarterback and a solid defense and still has issues with management over control of a franchise.

But that in a nutshell is Harbaugh and his personality. And there is no other way of getting around it.

As ABCNews.com put it in a story online, “Harbaugh is in the fourth year of his $25 million, five-year contract coaching the San Francisco 49ers, and the relationship might be wearing thin despite success on the field. Harbaugh carries on amid speculation he is grating on everyone from his players to the front office and could be on his way out.”

Off-field issues have not helped him this season either.

Harbaugh has dealt with serious issues, from domestic violence allegations against defensive lineman Ray McDonald and linebacker Aldon Smith's nine-game suspension. Still, the 49ers were 4-3 going into their bye weekend and very much in the chase for the NFC West crown — again.

Should he leave after this season – which is a real possibility, who should replace him? Here are four candidates.
