The Five Most Disappointing Teams Of The 2014 Season

The 2014 season is now in the books. Some teams had high hopes of going to the playoffs or improving on there last year record but not everything goes according to plan. Here are 5 teams that were disappointing this season

Chicago Bears

The Bears had high hopes this year coming off a (8-8) season last year. The Bears finished (5-11) this year losing 5 straight games to end the season. Some could argue that the Bears have one of the best offenses in the league with Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett. The offense let the team down. They finished 21st in the league in total yards. Cutler tied his career high in interceptions. Marshall and Jeffery both had an off year. Matt Forte the running back led the team in receptions. The Bears defense gave up the 3rd most yards in the league. The team just announced they fired general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman.

New York Jets

Last year the Jets finished at .500 with a (8-8) record on the season. Rex Ryan was hoping for a playoff this year. The Jets haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2010. The team never got into a rhythm with a starting quarterback. They kept going back and forth between Geno Smith and Michael Vick. The Jets finished last in passing yards per game on the season with 184 yards per game. The Jets have a chance of rebounding next year as they finished 3rd in rushing yards per game and 6th in total defense. Much like the Bears the Jets fired general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan.

San Francisco 49ers

Even though the 49ers finished (8-8) on the season some could look to the season as a disappointment. Coming into this year the Niners have gone (36-11-1) in three seasons under Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers lost in 2 conference championship games and 1 Super Bowl game the last three seasons. This year at one point the Niners were (7-4) with playoff chances but they ended the season losing 4 out of their last 5 games. Colin Kaepernick had his worst season in his three year career. The Niners also had to deal with injuries to star player Patrick Willis and suspension to Aldon Smith.

New Orleans Saints

Any team that has Drew Brees on it is suppose to make it to the playoffs and if that team can’t make it to the playoffs is viewed as a disappointment. The Saints finished 3rd in total offensive yards led by Brees, Jimmy Graham and Mark Ingram. The defense is what failed the team, giving up the second most yards. At no point this season did the Saints even get to a .500 record.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans went (7-9) last year. This year was a different story. The Titans finished (2-14) on the season, losing their last 10 games in a row to end their season. The Titans will now have the second pick in the upcoming draft. Tennessee went through some growing pains this year since they were starting a rookie quarterback in Zach Mettenberger and a rookie running back in Bishop Sankey. They finished towards the bottom of the league in both offense and defense. The Titans gave up the second most rushing yards to opposing teams. They also finished 30th in total offensive yards.
