2014 Auburn Tigers Season and Schedule Review

The 2014 season for the Auburn Tigers was a unique one for a number of reasons. To start with, they were coming off a 2013 season that was full of miracles, crazy finishes and a dream season that fans only dream of for their team.

Auburn finished with a record of 12-2 in 2013 thanks to a miracle finish against the Georgia Bulldogs and of course the play we all simply know as “kick 6.” The Tigers of Auburn were coming of a 2012 season in which they finished 3-9 and 0-8 in the SEC. It was a turnaround like we have never witnessed before and likely won’t see for years to come.

The Tigers had to regroup after a magic carpet ride in 2013 and they had their issues in doing so. The Auburn Tigers finished 8-5 in 2014 and were not the “underdog” like they were in 2013. In 2014, they were expected to be great and with those expectations came difficulties in finding ways to win as they did in 2013.

The secret formula for Auburn is there no huddle, up tempo offense that Tigers’ Head Coach Gus Malzahn has perfected. Malzahn, the offensive coordinator for Auburn’s 2010 national title winning team, came back in 2013 as the new head coach and the rest has been history.

He has had two seasons to implement his system and as he enters year three this coming year in 2015, the future is very bright for Auburn and Malzahn. His recruiting has been clicking on all cylinders since returning to Auburn as head coach and his up tempo, free flowing offense is an offensive player’s dream to play in.

It was a disappointing season record wise for the 2014 Auburn Tigers, but considering where this program is today in relations to their 3-9 2012 season it is a huge step forward in a short amount of time.

Here is the entire 2014 season schedule with results and scores.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers – Arkansas 21- Auburn 45

San Jose State Spartans @ Auburn Tigers – San Jose State 13 – Auburn 59

Auburn Tigers @ Kansas State Wildcats – Auburn 20 – Kansas State 14

Samford Bulldogs @ Auburn Tigers – Samford 7 – Auburn 31

Auburn Tigers @ Alabama Crimson Tide – Auburn 44 – Alabama 55

2014 Outback Bowl – Auburn Tigers 31- Wisconsin 34 (OT Final)

So, the Tigers finished the 2014 season with an 8-5 record, which included two straight losses to finish the season to rival Alabama in a classic battle and Wisconsin in an overtime thriller to finish the season.

The 2015 season for Auburn will once again come with high expectations. The state of Auburn’s football program is in great hands with Malzahn and their program appears to be on the rise on the field and off the field in the world of recruiting. 2014 was a setback for the Tigers, but 2015 Auburn will once again be at the forefront of the SEC West challenging for a spot in the 2015 SEC Championship Game.
