In just over nine first half minutes the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Hoosiers posted seven touchdowns covering 399 yards in a game that ended with a 45-29 Hawkeye victory.

Mark Weisman ran for two touchdowns and Jake Ruddock, returning from injury,threw for two more as the Iowa Hawkeyes scored a season high 38 points, in just the first half, on their way to victory.

Indiana running back Tevin Coleman took over the Big Ten rushing yards lead with touchdown runs of 83, 45, and 69 yards en route to 219 yards on just 15 carries.

Indiana coach Kevin Wilson said, "Iowa played very well today. They got after us and got a good win. We had a couple opportunities early. They made more big plays than us. The game stats were kind of close, but they had more big plays than us."

Big plays abounded for the next nine minutes.

Things were quiet in the game until both teams exploded for big plays and scores.

The flurry of scores started following a long Iowa drive capped by Rudock's first touchdown from 12 yards away to tight end Jake Duzey with 4:41 left in the first quarter.

Just 0:56 later Iowa cornerback Desmond King picked off Indiana quarterback Nate Sudfeld, taking it 35 yards for a 14-0 Iowa lead.

After a quick three-and-out by Indiana. Rudock connected with Damond Powell for 72 yards on their first play of the drive for a 21-0 Hawkeye lead.

On the ensuing Indiana drive Coleman ran for 2 yards and then 83 for Indiana's first score.

Iowa struck again on their first play of the next drive, a 60-yard run from freshman speedster Jonathan Parker.

The Hoosier's first play after the kickoff was a 62-yard completion from Sudfeld to Indiana's speedster, wide receiver Shane Wynn. It took four more plays for Sudfeld to hit Nick Stoner for a 13-yard touchdown.

In between scores Sudfeld was knocked out of the game with an apparent shoulder injury When Hawkeye defensive lineman Carl Davis and Drew Ott both landed on top of Sudfeld during a sack. He was 4-for-9, 85 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.

It took a whopping 3:03 for the final score of the nine minute flurry. This one also a one-play-drive when Coleman ran for 45 yards, cutting the Iowa lead to 28-21.

In the time it takes to boil an egg the two teams posted 49 points covering 399 yards.

It looked like more points might be added quickly when Indiana recovered the on-side kick after their last score. But they were unable to move the ball, forced to punt.

After another 5:36 of game time ticked away Marshall Koehn kicked a 22-yard field goal for the Hawkeyes.

Indiana suffered its second turnover on their next drive when Sudfeld replacment Chris Covington's tipped pass landed in the arms of Iowa linebacker Bo Bower.

The Hawkeyes ate up the remaining 3:36 of the half. Weisman scoring a 1-yard touchdown on 4th-and-1 with :03 remaining. That gave Iowa a commanding 38-21.

The last two touchdowns of the game were scored at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Weisman scored his second 1-yard touchdown following a nine play 55-yard drive.

Coleman scored Indiana's last touchdown 1:01 later romping 69 yards. The successful two point conversion created the final 45-29 score.

With all the big plays the two teams were just 8-for-31 on third down, but 3-for-3 on fourth downs.

There were four plays of 60 yards or more in the first quarter. Four plays of 20 yards or more the rest of the way.

Covington who was converted to quarterback from linebacker in the spring was only 3-of-12, for 31 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT.

Coleman's 83 yard run was the longest of his career and the longest for Indiana in five years.

Only Coleman had more than one catch for Indiana, tallying two.  Six others had one catch.

Rudock was 19-of-27 for 210 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT.

Powell led all receivers in yards with 85 on 3 grabs. His 73-yard catch wAs the longest Iowa play of the year.

Tevaun Smith and Jake Duzey each had a game high four catches for 69 and 23 yards.

For the second time this year 10 different Hawkeyes caught passes in a game.

Weisman had 89 yards on 22 carries.

Coming into the game Iowa insisted they would rotate Rudock and C.J. Beathard. Beathard saw the field for just three short series as Rudock played his best game of the season.

Iowa has now converted 9-of-12 fourth down attempts this year.

Iowa, (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten), travels to Maryland, (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten), while Indiana, (3-3, 0-2 Big Ten), will host Michigan State, (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten).

After a horrible first five weeks of the season for the Big Ten Conference, the schedules for this prestigious conference finally get in full gear this weekend.

The Big Ten has been crucified for their play in the first five weeks of the 2014 season and rightfully so. They have had horrible out of conference losses and power teams, like Michigan, that look like a shell of themselves this season.

The Wolverines lost their third game this past Saturday to Minnesota. This marked the first time in Michigan’s 135 year history of college football that they have lost three games before the end of September.

To think about that stat is mind blowing, but also shows just how far Michigan has fallen off under Head Coach Brady Hoke. The Wolverines are all but certain to have a new head coach in 2015, but as for now they must put the pieces to together and finish a tough 2014 season.

The surprise of the Big Ten so far this year may be one of the new comers to the conference and that is the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Scarlet Knights have been one of the most impressive teams so far in 2014 and could be a contender in a very weak Big Ten.

With all this being said, someone has to win the Big Ten in 2014. The frontrunner at this point has to be the Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans suffered a double digit defeat to a top five Oregon Ducks team in Eugene, Oregon in week two. The score was misleading in that matchup because the Spartans had control of the game until the fourth quarter.

Let’s take a look at the Week Six slate in the Big Ten and predict who wins and the scores to each game.

So, this is how I see the Big Ten slate turning out in Week Six. It’s a conference under a lot of fire for a number of reasons. The marquee matchup of Week Six and possibly of the season is Michigan State vs. Nebraska.

I believe Michigan State wins this battle thanks to home field and this will put the Spartans in the driver’s seat to win the Big Ten along with the Wisconsin Badgers. It will be an interesting week in the Big Ten, but the battle of regaining creditability is a long way from being complete.
