The College Football Geek: Winning Daily Fantasy Picks For Week 6

Daily College Fantasy Football has exploded onto the scene in 2014!  It’s not just for the NFL anymore, football fans.

Haven’t tried it yet?  The Daily Fantasy format is simple.  You pick the players you want for that day.  Build a roster using a salary cap format.  Play for REAL CASH MONEY against other people.  Immediate cash payouts!

There are literally hundreds of college fantasy football contests to play on Saturday, highlighted by DraftKings’ $25,000 Hail Mary and FanDuel’s $25,000 Tailgate.  Righteous bucks!!

The contests are broken down by time slot.  So you can play one contest for the early slate of games, and another completely different one for the late games.  Entry fees start as low as $1.00.  Give it a try!

Below is a look at CollegeFootballGeek.com’s favorite picks for Week 6.  If you’re serious about making REAL CASH in Daily College Fantasy Football, or just looking to get started on the action, this is a great beginning point to build a winning lineup!

FIVE ANCHORS TO BUILD AROUND

These guys come with a steep price tag, but are worth the investment.  Build the foundation of your lineup with these anchors.

1.  QB Dak Prescott, Mississippi St. vs. Texas A&M, 12:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $9000, FanDuel – $11,200)
This is his first truly big stage.  SEC Showdown.  No. 6 vs. No. 12.  The Heisman Trophy door is open with Mariota coming up short Thursday night.  We don’t expect Dak to come up short at home.  We expect him to blow up.

2. QB Shane Carden, East Carolina vs. SMU, 12:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $8800, FanDuel – $10,000)
This is probably the biggest mismatch (on paper) of the entire Saturday slate.  You have one of the hottest QBs in the country going up against a SMU team who just wants the season to end.

3.  RB Tevin Coleman, Indiana vs. North Texas, 2:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $9000, FanDuel – $9700)
The Mean Green are the last true cupcake on the Hoosiers’ schedule.  The rugged Big Ten slate begins with Iowa and Michigan State over the next two weeks.  Coleman has feasted on cupcakes in the past.

4.  RB Todd Gurley, Georgia vs. Vanderbilt, 4:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $8300, FanDuel – $9300)
Gurley’s Heisman campaign continues against the hapless ‘Dores, who are giving up an average of 35 points per game.  Set Gurley’s floor at 100 yards and a couple TDs.

5.  WR Nelson Spruce Colorado vs. Oregon State, 4:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $8400, FanDuel – $7800)
The dude caught 19 freaking balls last week.  13 the week before that.  Ride him while he’s scorching hot.

FIVE (and a half) BIG VALUE PLAYS

Bargain players poised to out-perform their DFS salaries this week.  These are the diamonds in the rough, the difference-makers you need to hit on in order to take down a big DFS tournament.

1.  QB Deshaun Watson, Clemson vs. NC State, 3:30pm ET
(DraftKings – $7200, FanDuel – $6300)
So Watson pops off to the tune of 435-6 passing, and the Salary Makers at FD DECREASE his price from $6,500 last week to $6,300?  Yeah, that makes sense.  Gobble him up vs. a terrible Tar Heel defense.

2.  RB Jeremy Langford, Michigan State vs. Nebraska, 8:00pm ET
(DraftKings – $4700, FanDuel – $8900)
This time around, it’s DK with the major brain fart.  Take advantage.  Langford was injured in the opener, and is finally back to full strength.  He was also the victim of blowouts the past few weeks.  This game should be a close one, and Langford should far exceed his cheap DK price.

3.  WR Isaiah Jones, East Carolina vs. SMU, 12:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $5700, FanDuel – $5100)
Jones is tied for 13th in the country in receptions per game with 7.3 (80 yards and 0.75 TD per game).  In other words, he averages 21 fantasy points per game on DraftKings.  That is well worth the salary spent.  And the matchup is to die for.

4.  RB Josh Robinson, Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M, 12:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $5800, FanDuel – $6000)
In the shadow of his QB, Robinson is quietly putting together a nice season.  He averages 15-121-1 per game on the ground.  In what could be a shootout, Robinson should hit value again this week.

5a. WR Mike Williams, Clemson vs. NC State, 3:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $4600, FanDuel – $4300)
Like his QB above, Williams’ DFS price did not increase much at all despite a breakout performance.  He probably won’t equal last week’s 6-122-2 statline, but he doesn’t have to in order to reach his value this week.

5b.  WR Isaiah Ford, Virginia Tech at North Carolina, 12:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $4400, FanDuel – $5200)
Ford has scored in three of five games this fall, and this tilt with UNC figures to be a high-scoring affair.  Clemson torched the Tar Heel’s secondary a week ago.  While the Hokies passing attack isn’t quite as potent, it’s good enough to exploit this weakness.

FIVE CHEAP FLIERS TO GAMBLE ON

Love your roster, but only have a few bucks left to fill that final lineup slot?  Here are some low cost flier considerations who do provide some upside.

1. RB Marshawn Williams, Virginia Tech at UNC, 12:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $4600, FanDuel – $4300)
With Shai McKenzie out for the season, Williams has a huge opportunity to shine in the Hokies offense.  Sharing the load with McKenzie last week, he tallied 16 touches for 138 yards against Western Michigan.

2.  WR De’Runnya Wilson, Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M, 12:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $3800, FanDuel – $4700)
Yet another Bulldog makes our report.  Wilson is dirt cheap on DK.  We’re not sure why.  He posted a solid 4-91-1 last week against a solid LSU defense.  He should be able to do some damage against A&M.

3.  WR Jamarcus Nelson, UAB at Western Kentucky, 7:00pm ET
(DraftKings - $3400, FanDuel – N/A)
This one is simple.  Nelson’s DK price is near rock bottom.  He has big play potential.  And WKU’s secondary is god awful.  Worth a roll of the dice.

4.  WR Kenny Lawler, Cal at Washington State, 10:30pm ET
(DraftKings - $4300, FanDuel – $5100)
The Bears spread it around in the passing game with four receivers all with a similar season long statline.  However, it is Lawler that seems to have the best nose for the endzone (5 TDs).

5.  RB Jamal Morrow, Washington State vs. Cal, 10:30pm ET
(DraftKings – $3000, FanDuel – $4700)
Morrow doesn’t have a high ceiling, but with his super cheap DK salary, he’s worth a look.  The RB has 18 receptions on the season (great in DK’s PPR format) and total of  362 yards from scrimmage.  But he has yet to score a TD.

EASTER EGG OF THE WEEK

A hidden gem that slipped through the cracks of the almighty DFS salary-makers with a ridiculously low price.

To view this week’s Easter Egg selection, you must be a CFG subscriber.
Last week’s Easter Egg pick was Clemson QB Deshaun Watson (DK - $6,300, FD - $6,500).  We went "all in" on Watson and he came through big-time with a 435 passing yard, 6 passing TD performance for the ages.   This week’s selection is a small school gem that oozes of potential.

VEGAS SPEAKS, WE LISTEN

We can determine the projected highest scoring teams each week by paying attention to the Vegas over/unders and point spreads.  This is a great place to start narrowing down the list of players to target.  This week’s game that has shootout potential:

Cal at Washington State
(O/U 78.5)
Projected score: Washington State 41, Cal 38

Targets: QB Connor Halliday (WSU), Jared Goff (Cal), RB Daniel Lasco (Cal), WR Vince Mayle (WSU), WR River Cracraft (WSU), Isiah Myers (WSU)

This one sure looks like fantasy gold on paper.  Connor Halliday leads the country in passing yards (2,318).  Is there enough to go around for wideouts Mayle, Myers, Cracraft and Dom Williams?  Yes sir.  Usually, three of the four will pan out.  Cal is coming is an insane 59-56 2OT thriller over Colorado.  The problem with the Bears is that they don’t have WRs you can trust week in and week out.  Look for RB Daniel Lasco to churn out some yards on the ground.  The scoreboard operator will be busy in this late night fantasy treat.

YOU ANGERED US, BRO

The player who most screwed us over last week.  Causing pain.  So much pain.

WR Nelson Agholor, USC

So the Trojans put up a solid 35 points against Oregon State, and Mr. Big Shot Preseason All-America WR Nelson Agholor chips in with a measly 3-27-0 statline?  NOT.  GOOD.  ENOUGH.  Those of us in the running for some big late-night Saturday cash-ola were none too pleased.
