Philadelphia at Houston: 5 Things to Know

Thing 1-

Philadelphia is coming off a bad lose to the Cardinals. I do mean a bad lose, did you see it? The Eagles are worse at getting into the end zone then the 40 year old virgin. A simple I formation set, a simple attempt at a run for an inch for that first down. You get an inch and then you get 3 more tries at getting another inch to get in the end zone. Weak

Thing 2-

J J Watt is an absolute monster but that's not news. Failing to acknowledge what everyone already knows though would be a mistake. J J Watt is either going to make a play that will alter the course of the game in the Texans favor or he going to get real close but just miss. There will be a play, an instant that Mr. Watt does something single handily that will either have a major impact on the game or a major miss at impacting the game.

Thing 3-

The Texans are a week away from their bye only trailing the Colts by a game in the division. After the bye they have 7 remaining games with two absolute lob balls against the Jags. Getting a win here would put them comfortably trailing the Colts right in striking distance.

Thing 4-

The Eagles are trying to keep pace with the hated Cowboys. There is nothing more hated in Philly then a Cowboys fan unless they are playing the Giants that week and then you get it. With games against the Seahawks, away against the Packers and two head to heads against the Boys, losing a winnable game would hurt.

Thing 5-

The Eagles are a monster 3-0 all-time against the Texans.

Wrap up extra things.

Foles better bring it or the calls for Butt fumble will be deafening.

Clowney is back. Let's see what it looks like to have Watt and Clowney terrorizing qbs unlike anything since Reggie and Jerome.

Fantasy related things.

Texans not so good against run, start McCoy.

Eagles not the best against the run, start Foster.

Carey Williams, not so good at anything, start Andre and DeAndre.

Go Birds unless you are my Texas reading fans, then uh... Go Birds.

Philadelphia at Houston: 3 Things We Learned

MaclinDespite starting quarterback Nick Foles leaving the game with a shoulder injury, the Philadelphia Eagles still managed to defeat the Houston Texans 31-21. The Eagles win, combined with the Dallas Cowboys loss to the Arizona Cardinals, puts the Eagles joint top of the NFC East. The Texans fall to 4-5 and 2nd place in the AFC South.

It was an injury plagued game, with both squads suffering injuries to key players. As mentioned the Eagles lost Foles early in the game, and later on linebacker DeMeco Ryans was carted off the field with a lower body injury. The Texans lost both starting cornerbacks and the Eagles took immediate advantage putting together a scoring drive consisting of only pass plays, topped with a Jeremy Maclin touchdown grab.

More concerning for the Texans is the health of Arian Foster who after scoring a 56 yard receiving touchdown, left the field a few plays later and didn’t return.

Apart from injuries galore, what were the three main points from this game?

No.1: Mark Sanchez is still... Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez came in and guided the Eagles to a win, I can’t take that away from him. But the two interceptions should have been punished by the Texans. Jeremy Maclin had a game and a half with 158 yards and two touchdowns. Eagles fans should be hoping that Foles can return to the helm as soon as possible, because if the Texans’ backup corners can force turnovers imagine what a full strength defence could do.

No.2: DeAndre Hopkins is a legitimate No.2 receiver.

Well, today he looked like the Texans’ number one guy who also has Andre in his name. Hopkins caught six passes for 115 yards and one touchdown and accounted for over half of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s passing yards. I’ve had faith in Hopkins since he entered the league, his place on my fantasy team in both seasons shows this. In his last three games he has totalled 318 yards, and his four touchdowns have already doubled his total from last year.

No.3: The Eagles need a full strength squad fast.

Coming into the stretch the Eagles have a tough schedule, they still have games to play against the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. But more importantly, out of their last six games of the season, five are against divisional teams, including week 13 and 15 games against the Cowboys, with the current standings in the NFC East, these two games could be huge for either team. The loss of DeMeco Ryans is huge, hopefully his injury is nothing serious. If Foles misses a couple of weeks and is rushed back into action the Eagles could struggle.

Going into the next few weeks both the Eagles and Texans are in similar boats, hoping their injuries aren’t serious so both can make playoff pushes in their respective conferences.

Philadelphia at San Francisco: 3 Thing We Learned

After a three game losing streak to The Cardinals, Bears and Cowboys, the 49ers were finally able to pull out a win, their first in the new Levi Stadium. The following three reasons contribute to why they were finally able to end their losing streak.

1. Frank Gore, back to his old self:

During one of the moments of the game where we wondered if Kaepernick could get back on balance, he throws across his body, down the feild to Gore who stood open nearly twenty yards away. Miraculously Gore is able to make the catch and run for a career-best 55 yard touchdown. As seen in games past, San Francisco is at their best when Gore is able to make plays like that one.

2. Phil Dawson finds the hole:

Another huge factor to the Niners sucess tonight came from twelve points made by Phil Dawson. One of the feild goals, kicked from over forty yards proved to be worthy of the slow motion replay. Dawson is able to find a hole between Eagles defenders, just wide enough for the football to pass through to make it through the goal posts. Dawson, a true veteran kicker is always essential to the 49ers success.

3. The half-time pep talk:

Up until this game, the 49ers had failed to score a touchdown in the second half. Who knows what Coach Harbaugh said during half-time, but something was said to boost the Niners confidence to keep on fighting for the win even though they trailed 21-13 at the half. Congratualtions to Gore, Stevie Johnson, and Kaepernick for showing the 49ers that they can still get things done in the second half.

We'll have to wait and see if the Niners can keep this momentum as they face Alex Smith and The Cheifs next Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Free Agents They Should Target

Tarvaris Jackson The free agency period is one of every NFL fan's favorite part of the offseason. It's a chance for their team to get rid of some dead weight, and possibly get some new talent as well.
The Philadelphia Eagles are all too familiar with free agency, as they've made plenty of big moves in the last few years.
As we saw in 2011 and 2012 however, adding big names doesn't always work.
The Eagles need to add some quality young talent, and that doesn't always mean going after the big names. With that said, who should they chase after this offseason?
5. Tarvaris Jackson, Quarterback
Decided to open the list with a bit of a wildcard selection. Jackson, who is by no means "young" would be an interesting prospect for the team.
Standing at 6-2 and running a 4.6 40-yard dash, the nine-year vet could find a perfect home in Philadelphia. The free agent would come relatively cheap, and provide ample competition for second-year QB Matt Barkley.
Predicted: 1 year/$900,000
4. Jason Worilds, Outside Linebacker
This is a pick I absolutely love. After looking over the upcoming free agency list for LBs, lot's of names stuck out to me (Dan Connor, Karlos Dansby, etc) but most seemed they would be asking for a little too much money.
The Eagles are O.K. on money, but I would advise they save it for now. Some may think the Birds will go OLB in the first round, but I don't buy it. If Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper really aren't re-signed, then a WR in the first round is a no-brainer.
James Worilds is only 25 years and no doubt has a promising future. Only starting 11 games last year, Worilds led the Steelers with 8 sacks. The 'Steel Curtain' won't want to let him go, but you never know, anything can happen in the NFL. Word has it that Worilds is only willing to re-sign if he's a guaranteed starter. More LB drama in Pittsburgh? Come to Philly my friend, we would love to have you.
Predicted: 4 year/$19M
3. Graham Gano, Kicker
If you watched even 15 minutes of Eagles football last year, you know they need a new kicker. Alex Henery was supposed to be the next Dave Akers, but he's turning out to be a bust (fourth-round is high for a kicker).
Veteran Graham Gano on the other hand, is anything but. The 26-year-old went 24/27 on the year in Carolina, and had a long of 54 yards. He could ask for a pretty penny, but the Eagles can no doubt afford to meet his demands.
Predicted: 3 year/$6.5M
2. Clay Harbor, Tight End
The Eagles are somewhat secure at tight end. Brent Celek still has a year or two, while Zach Ertz will only get better. James Casey has all the potential in the world, but he was vastly underused last year, and not at all worth the $4 million he was paid. Being due $3.9M next year, I wouldn't expect the Eagles to keep him around, unless he's willing to take a massive cut.
Clay Harbor on the other hand spent most of his career with the Eagles before barely missing the cut last offseason. He found his way to Jacksonville, and flourished (for a backup tight end) posting career highs in nearly every phase.
Harbor would come seriously cheap, and could be a legitimate backup to Ertz in the future. Kelly has already gushed about him in the past, and would more than likely welcome him back.
Predicted: 2 year/$4.5M
1. Jairus Byrd, Free Safety
OK, so maybe the Eagles should go after a big name...Jairus Byrd
Jairus Byrd is no doubt the best DB hitting the market, and is by most viewed as the best all-around free safety in the league.
Byrd would ask for a whole lot of money, but the Eagles would be able to afford it if they stick with a cheap free agency shopping list up to this point.
The Eagles desperately need to fix their secondary, starting with safety. Nate Allen could find his way back to the team, but he won't have much competition if Chip Kelly doesn't bring anyone in.
Byrd could be the leader that the secondary desperately needs, and make a huge impact from day one. Plus, both Byrd and Kelly are Oregon Alum, so this move could be more realistic than we think
Predicted: 4 year/28.5M
What Do YOU Think?
Well? Should the Eagles look at other options? Should they worry about re-signing Maclin and Cooper? Or maybe taking a shot at different LBs/TEs or safeties?
Comment below and voice your opinion! Who will the Eagles get this offseason?
